AGM 2026…

It's that time of year: next Monday, we will be electing LitSoc's committee for 2026-2027. These will be who will organise the lecture schedule, the workshops, the events, maybe even the trips and festivals! The only limit of what you can do with LitSoc is the budget, and it's a really good budget.

But while the committee may decide of the direction LitSoc takes after next year, there would be no LitSoc without our general members: you. Whether or not you attend the AGM essentially determines whether there will be a society next year. No pressure!

This year, the 2025-2026 committee organised:

• A lecture series bringing together students, staff and alumni on topics not covered in class;
• Craft nights, games night and film nights;
• The LGBTQ+ Symposium: a full-day of talks on topics ranging from Queer magazines in the Weimar Republic to Greek mythology, followed by an evening of wine and poetry;
• Second-hand book sales, dates with a book;
• Study groups for students across the department, and a dissertation support group;
• Workshops and roundtable discussions on fanfiction, lady knights as a literary trope and metafiction!

And we have more coming over the last month, including a talk on Homer's Odyssey by Dr Sam Newington, an archive visit to study Medieval and Early Modern manuscripts, and a bookbinding workshop!
