Join us at our first History Society, student-led conference on the usefulness of the Humanities, taking place on Friday, 20th March from 12:00–17:00 in King's College.
This event is open to all students (UG, PGT, and PGR) as well as staff, and aims to celebrate the value of the Humanities and Arts while exploring the many academic and professional pathways they offer.
The conference will feature two panel discussions with speakers from both academic and professional backgrounds.
The first panel will explore the public communication of the humanities, with a particular focus on history. Our speakers will discuss themes such as the advantages and challenges of public history, the importance of outreach, and different ways to engage wider audiences with humanities research.
The second panel will focus on career pathways within the humanities. Speakers will reflect on their own experiences and provide practical insight into finding a career with (or without) a humanities degree, offering advice and perspectives for students considering their future paths.
Both panels will include time for audience Q&A, so we strongly encourage you to bring your questions and ideas to help spark engaging and insightful discussion.
Before each panel, there will also be a 30-minute interactive breakout session, where participants can discuss the themes of the upcoming panel in small groups using guided prompts. These sessions are designed to encourage conversation and help inspire questions for the panelists.
You are welcome to attend the full conference or join only individual panels or breakout sessions, depending on your availability. A detailed timetable will be sent to registered attendees.
Light catering (lunch and drinks) will be provided - please let us know your dietary restrictions in the survey after getting a ticket!
We hope you will join us for an afternoon of discussion, reflection, and exploration of the many possibilities within the Humanities.
